NATIONAL UNION OF COOPERATIVES ON THE DISABLED



The Bulgarian Cooperative Movement is one of the first in Europe, with traditions in economy and society.

The beginning of cooperatives of the disabled was established in the 1950s, mainly in the field of sewing production, bookbinding services, paper and cardboard packaging, plastic products and souvenir goods.
With the increase in the number of disability cooperatives comes and the need for an alliance to protect their common interests.

In 1990 . the Union ofTPK of the disabled and companies for employed persons, since 1992 -Central Union of Cooperatives of the Disabled.

The main activities of the union are:

- creating opportunities for integration and reintegration of people with disabilities by investing in the professional and personal -mental development; preparation and consultations on the introduction of the European standards for quality management; information service for its members;
- organize of training courses, qualification and retraining of management and executive personnel, etc.

In the system ofHC onKI 30 cooperatives operate on disabled people from all over the country with diverse activities – tailoring and knitwear, bookbinding, cardboard and packaging, production of plastic products.

The goods and services produced by the cooperatives of the disabled enter the homes, the offices and working environment of the Bulgarian:

- work clothes, trousers, shirts, baby and children's clothes;
- bedding; ornaments, trinkets, household items made of plastic and metal;
- leather goods, hand and machine knitting, cardboard and packaging;
- stationery and book goods;
- printing and bookbinding services, etc.

The National Union of Cooperatives of the Disabled (NSKI) is a voluntary association with representative and protective functions, of cooperatives in which the majority of workers are people with reduced working capacity.
